Default 1911 Question

Guys,

This may be a dumb question but I need your honest advise. I have two Glock 21's and do not currently have a 1911. I have found a fellow Police officer on web site that would like to trade a Para G.I. Expert 45 for a Glock 21. I don't know much about the Para Ordnance 45's as I haven't shot the 1911 for over 20 years. I know a lot of you don't like the Glock and I really don't have a problem with that, but, from my experience the Glock platform it works extremely well for what Linda and I use it for.

I would like to make this trade but am unsure of the para 1911 platform. Could you give me some idea of it's strengths and weaknesses?

Please no any 1911 is better than the best Glock.

Thanks

I don't know a lot about para but I would make that trade in a heartbeat.

A good friend has one and has regretted the purchase since day one. It shoots OK but is just enough "off-spec" that many accessories do not fit without excessive tinkering. Recently, he tried to install a S&A magwell and it would have taken a lot of filing to make it fit. The finish is also a bit "soft" and wears very fast. Just my 2 cents...

Scubie,

I bite my tongue.

The Para G.I. Expert is an entry level 1911 pattern pistol that is comparably priced to the glock 21.

Do yourself a favor and make the trade.

If it has been 20 years since you shot a 1911 I am looking forward to your experience with the Para.

Still biting my tongue!

Make the trade. I have owned and shot Para's for many, many moons. Never had any problems with them and all mine have been 100%. I bought a P-14 when they first came out and still have and carry it today as my primary SD.

Para's are well built guns but their black finish sucks. It will start coming off the second you put it in the holster.

To caveat my post, I'd probably make the trade as well - especially since you have 2 G21s. I'm a big 1911 fan (and a Para owner), just wanted to share what I know about this particular model first-hand...
