I had a Springfield EMP 9mm when they first came out. It was and is kind of pricey. But, it's a great pistol and it was designed to be small, not just cut down. It was originally designed for 9mm, so I don't know how it does as a forty.

I realize that you want the larger capacity of a double stack, but the EMP is a pistol worth looking at for future reference.

I love Para Ord's pistols. I still have one of the old P16's. I'd have one of the new ones in a heartbeat.

A 1911 in any other caliber than a 45 is like making a mixed drink of beer and Coke; like putting a Yugo engine in a GTO; like carrying an SOS steel wool pad in place of a Trojan condom; like....oh you get the idea.

If you want a 9mm, like Canebrake said, get a Browning High Power. You want a 40 get a S&W M&P.

Actually, the .40 S&W really finds a great platform in an all steel 1911 style pistol. As it's a snappy round, it is much easier to shoot rapidly and accurately from this platform than the poly guns where it's so popular. I've owned a P16 with both an LDA trigger and a standard SA trigger and both were reliable and extremely accurate. While the LDA is a very smooth trigger system (much like a Kahr), I still prefer the standard SA style. These Para's are very popular with steel shooters and many are converted into full race guns...

Thanks for all of your input guys. I would definitely like a 40 s&w 1911, double stack and SA. I don't really dig DA pistols, so that rules out the Para LDA models for me.

I'm looking at a used Para 16-40 Gov't SA. It's black, but I guess I could have it nickel plated at a later time. Any disadvantage to doing this?

I think Bud's got it for $729 and it ships for free, if it's the same one, that's a good price there.
