1911 Pistols in 40 S&W and 9mm

I've been intereted in adding a 1911 pistol to my collection for quite some time. The main turn off to this platform is the 45 acp ammo cost. I love the look of 1911's, but just can't afford to stock up on 45 auto at this point in time.

So, I saw that Para Ordnance makes a P14-60 (.40 cal) and a P18-9 (9mm) model. They are very appealing, the P14-60 in particular as I have a Glock 23and just purchased 1K rounds for it.

Do you guys have any experience with these models? Do you know where I can find one at a good price? They are a bit on the pricey side.

Thanks.

I too am interested. I have two 1911 in 45. I will not give these up for anything but would like one in 9mm.

I should clarify that I'm looking for a double stack (hi-cap) 1911 in 40 s&w.

Thanks!

I've owned 2 Para P16.40s and also a P18 in 9mm. If you like double stack 1911 style pistols - they're great shooters. As Para is a fan of their LDA (light double action) triggers, many guns are in this variant. The grips on these are large and won't work well if you have smallish hands. They are also a tad pricey - mainly because they are a niche gun. Bud's gun shop tends to have a lot of used Para's so you could check there...

Got this same Para SX1640S, eats what I feed it with no problems and the eject spring is adjustable to your own taste. Still along a 1911 platform. Buds got it cheaper than what I paid for mine a couple years ago.

Who makes the best mags for the Para Ord. 40 s&w 1911 (p16-40 model)?

danf_fl 03-08-2011 08:36 PM

ARnoob, Oh ye of so little faith.

Mr. Cane has expressed his opinion on the best mags. Look through some of the other threads and (I believe) Tripp will show as the favorite.

You want a JMB 9 mike mike?

The Browning Hi-Power, 15+1, get one that was designed for 9mm, not modified for the round!

Tripp only makes single stacks. Double stack 1911's are for sissy's!
