My family portrait consists of 5 of us, ALL named LURCH (you remember, George Foreman's 5 sons, all named George....). Anyway. When LURCH walks into the room, heads turn. When LURCH speaks, EVERYBODY listens.
With the exception of the nickel plated 1911 "Safe Queen", built in 1919 which is why I don't shoot it, all are EDC and ALL are in CONDITION 1. We saw no reason to make any changes from how they spend their lives. OK, LURCH 2 is not on "safe". It's not loaded right now.
Oh, WAIT. Some of you are thinking that Baby Colt, the Compact Officer is not CONDITION 1 but take another look. Can you have your hammer DOWN and your safety UP ?!?
Think about that one while you browse the rest of my my portraits....
LURCH 1 is my DW K03S in 45. I shoot it at bowling pins with HEAVY loads. Other than that, it is the one which usually can be found in my holster on a daily basis. WHY ? Bcuz, it just feels good in my hand.
LURCH 2 is my Rock Island 9mm. I like punching paper since it's so tame. The only problem is that it won't feed hollow points. They nose dive and I will not carry it for SD bcuz of that. Even RI couldn't solve that problem for me. So I bought LURCH 4.
LURCH 3 is the BABY COLT, COMPACT OFFICER. It eats anything and I do like it. However, it is subject to rusting so I don't like to carry it on a regular basis. I always use IWB holsters and my sweat is quite corrosive. I rust guns and I rot leather shoes and boots.
LURCH 4 is my 9mm Springer EMP. The main reason I bought this one is bcuz it DOES feed hollow points. When I want to bet my life on something I want it to save my life EVERY TIME. I don't want to wonder WTF ?!?
I have one more LURCH which is my Ford D250 DIESEL PICKUP with twin vertical exhaust stacks, oversize wheels and tires. It's BIG and it's LOUD. I pull stumps with it and haul heavy loads. It eats anything I feed it. I run it on used motor oil. It says, "YUM,YUM. Eat'em up !"
But I like my 1911s better. I can have one of them with me 100% of the time ! (even in bed....)
Anyway, LURCH 3 has Bill Laughridge's SFS in it. I put it in before I REALLY understood 1911s. Once I learned about and understood the 1911, I decided not to add it to my others.
Maybe I should sell my "safe queen" so I can buy something I can not only fondle but shoot, too....

Christmas gun!
First experience with barrel bushing and 1911 spring removal was immensely embarrassing. Second time was worse. Third time was just sad.
