the no lube video was heart wrenching. the muck test however? there, folks is someone that does not deserve to own a 1911.

our soldiers did it because they had to....not to try to look cool on the internet.

Hilton Yam, a renowned 1911 armorer and owner of 10-8 Performance, has done this test on a 1911. He had interesting results.

With basic function confirmed, it was time to move on to the first simple abusive test. I wanted to see how long the gun would function without lubrication of any kind. Clearly we know that generally weapons will function better WITH lubrication, but I wanted some more concrete data. Keep in mind that this gun is assembled to what I would consider average factory tolerances for fit, but minus all the lumps and bumps that lower end factory guns tend to have. In other words, your mileage may vary depending on how well your gun is set up.

I felt that a reasonable goal would be to try to shoot at least 1000 rounds without lubrication and cleaning to see what happens.

Shooters are often quick to blame any particular malfunction in their 1911 on insufficient lubrication, when the reality is that the cause lies elsewhere.

I see in the video he is using a gun degreaser it sells for about $6.00 + a can I in turn have been using with great success a $2.00 can of non clorinated break cleaner from any auto store or from Wally- World auto parts dept. & it works better than the expensive stuff with no damage to any of the firearms that I have used & cleaned with it.
