Bought 5 a few months ago. Shipping was super fast and I've ran about 1000 rounds through them without a single problem. Carry mags? I'd opt for the bigger names, but for range, you can't beat them

On the advice of Patrick Sweeney, I started using Chip McCormick mags. I also use Wilson Combat. Never any probs with either.

I use only magazines that function reliably 100% of the time without regard to the maker's name. Of course the only way to know it to shoot them......a lot.

"Name" brand magazine have given me no better or worse service that non name brand magazines.

Don't skimp on self defense mags. Wilson mags are good, as well as Chip mags. I have not tried Tripp Cobra mags personally, but I hear a lot of positives. At the range however, it's a different story. I have a bunch of cheaper GI mags, and they work well in my Colts and Wilson(they also worked well in my American Classic before I sold it, and in my brothers Brown), but not the Nighthawk. When I shoot the Nighthawk, I just switch to the higher quality mags(one of my Colt GI mags feeds in the Nighthawk though).

I know it's an old thread but is worth reading.

Being new to pistol shooting I'm feeling things out. I have several 1911s, all of which I EDC at one time or other, and I shoot bowling pins with one of them.

Something I learned is that the mag IS the weakest part of your equipment. I was shooting a tournament with several mags (which I had bought at various gun shows for cheap. I suspect they were made in china) laying on the bench as I was getting ready for the buzzer. One of them decided to unload its contents without me touching it. Fortunately, it was pointed at my leg so all the ammo and follower hit me so I was aware of the anomaly before I had to shoot. That is the only time I was happy that I got shot and I hope it to be THE ONLY time.

Since I am betting my lfe on my equipment, I want something that will function EVERY TIME. I got an email from Wilson telling me about their sale - 20% off, which is better than BROWNELLS so I bought 10 of them.
Since Canebrake is an engineer, he thinks like I do, tho I don't have near the experience he does and I learned something from him (THANK YOU Cane). I took what he said to heart and will look seriously at the TRIPP mags for EDC.
Spend the few extra dollars for WILSON OR TRIPP MAGAZINES for your self defense weapons. Your life is worth it.

Go for it. I bought a bunch of $6 GI mags for use at the gun range. So far I have not had any problems with them.

I have no plan to use them for personal defense...that is a different issue.

They are pricey, but you get what you pay for. I upgraded to Wilsons a few years back. I'll continue to use the old black ones at the range, but if I'm carrying my 1911, it's the Wilsons.

I will never buy any generic magazines. And if they are cheap they probably are in a lot of ways. Metal, Springs, Followers, Welds, Durability. If you buy good 1911 Mags they will last you for years! So my advise is as some here have mentioned. Don't Skimp on one of the most important parts of the weapon!
