Default 1911 info

I'm becoming obsessed with the 1911 and I know John Browning designed it but did Browning make the first ones or did Colt. Thanks, Gene.

Thanks for the reply. I have the article on Browning and from the visit to his home (in the forums) I'm assuming Browning did not build the first one but I'm still confused as to who did. (not unusual for me to be confused.) gene

The very FIRST 1911 may have been made by John Browning- as a prototype- but John Moses was a designer. The gun was actually produced by Colt.

Just as his OTHER designs were produced by Winchester, Remington, Fabrique Nationial, etc.

This guy posts on 1911 addicts at times. Best info there is. He has a great collection of older 1911's.

Yep he does have some very good info.

And if you were asking if the 1911 was first made by the Browning Firearms Company (and not John Moses himself) the company did not come into existence until 1927. It was formed to market the NON MILITARY designs of JMB.
