No, it's the Springer version of the Commander. Shorter barrel than the government model, but the grip is the same size.

I've heard good things about the Springfield MilSpec (a step up from the GI). I had a Springfield GI lightweight Champion, and it was a piece of crap. Three of us bought GIs — two of us got the Champion, one got the government model. The other guy who got the Champion has had no trouble, and still has his. The other two of us had problems, and we traded them away. Yes, I called customer service. They were great, BTW, which is why I would still consider Springfield for a future purpose. I sent the pistol back, and they replaced the extractor, polished the feed ramp and throated the chamber. It was less crappy when I got it back, but I still wasn't happy with it.

Move up to the MilSpec. Or higher.

Always go for the best you can afford. The difference in quality between an Ed Brown and RIA is something anybody will notice.

Ah..I thought it was a 3" rather than the 4.25. I Apparently had it mixed up with something else. I've not had any of the GI models but had a few others. I still have a Mil Spec I got a long time ago...With a few mods. Fantastic weapon though it could use some better sights maybe.

What exactly was the issue with yours?

Conical Taper: A cylindrical feature that gradually changes from a larger diameter to a smaller diameter at a constant ratio. Yep, that's pretty much the definition of a Bull Barrel. I say bull, you say conical.

It was a mix of FTFs and FTEs. It also threw brass everywhere, but I think that may have been part of the FTE issue.

When I got it back, the FTEs stopped (new extractor). The FTFs changed from nosing into the feed ramp (polished feed ramp) to nosing into the top of the chamber.
