I picked some hogue grips for the pro carry.
The two top scews came out just fine, but the lower bushings and screws came out together. |

You can order replacement bushing and screws from Brownell's, goju, in any style of screwhead you want. Because now you'll probably tear up either the screw or the bushing trying to get them apart. |

I have the wrap-arounds. Did you get them or the panels?
I had the same problem on the screws. I tightened the offenders in, very tight. Slow and steady. Then as fast as I could, I loosened them. That got the screws loose from the adaptors.
If that doesnt work, apply a dab of threadlocker on the screw adaptors and tighten them back into the frame, and then play the waiting game. __________________ I could make a list of a bunch of guns i have, or "have", or wish I had. I've been right there before, goju, and I know how you feel. Sorry! |

Yeah, best to order some screws and bushings. Make sure to get the right bushing for the grips you are using. There are thinner bushings for thinner grips. If the ones you are replacing are the same width as the ones coming off then the standard budging will do. I've had that happen a few times over the years so I tend to keep a couple/few sets around to help minimize my frustration. |

Great suggestion Junkie. Us 1911 owners find having grip spares is a must when the easiest and most dramatic change you can make to your 1911 is a stock change!
This inexpensive bushing installation tool is a must if you are going to thin bushings. It also helps to remove any anaerobic thread locked bushings without damage.
I got mine from Smith & Alexander. Call Alan or Barbara Smith (888-722-1911) and order one.

Also get some Loctite blue, the smallest tube you can find. It will last you a lifetime. __________________ .

A big plus one on that suggestion. Loctite is a MUST for every gun tinkerer's tool box.

Well, I got lucky! I put the rubber grips back on and tightened the down pretty hard. Then I gave a quick twist to get them out and the screw came out the bushing stayed in. I was able to install the hogue wrap arounds and they feel good! |
