FSS should be a choice. I have 3 pistols with them, but I don't really care for them. The only reason I have them is because the pistols I ordered came with them standard, if I could have a choice I would not have them.
As far as not having your hand that close to the business end, just keep your finger off the trigger. Safety starts in the mind, and rule number one is treat all guns as if they were loaded. Accidents will happen but gun accidents are either expensive, dangerous, and/or deadly. If you don't like FSS just use the rears, but respect the person who prefers fronts.
