Default 1911 Colt with Essx fram

Anyone have any history with this set up I have a Colt slide and barrel 5 inch of course it works great the thing doesnt want to quit but I did find it sure doesnt like hollow points only Ball ammo but never the less I feel pretty safe in the mountains with this mini cannon it is pretty accurate at least for my feeble eyes LOL I was wondering if anyone out there has any essex frams ???

Yes, I have such a setup. The frames are okay to work with.

They are a low cost frame made to military spec's.

Have the feedramp polished and the chamber throated and it should feed hollowpoints all day long.

I have one with that set-up--Essex frame & genuine Colt military slide. I built this pistol up when I didn't know anything about the 1911. I did fine but I did leave some slop in the barrel bushing (getting ready to change that out) but it handles all bullets great. I prefer the 230RN & load those to about 875fps & it cycles great with a 16# spring. I want to do one now in .38 Super then maybe a 9mm Luger. I will use Essex frames on those also. Love those 1911A1's - xoxoxoxo-

My 1911s only eat ball ammo. Haven't tried anything else to be honest. I have Silvertip hollowpoints but have yet to fire any. Ball ammo won 2 world wars so it should be fine for burglars and muggers or thugs.

They have improved on defensive ammo by vast amounts since WW2.
