1911 Carry Weapon

Im looking for a GI model for a carry weapon and I like the Springfield but im wondering if there are any other companys that make a GI model? What finish would hold up better for a carry weapon? SS or a blued finish.

A ton of companies make a GI model. Kimber, Colt, American Classic, Nighthawk, Dan Wesson, and the list goes on and on.

Stainless will hold up better but I like blue guns so that is how I buy them.

A friend has a milspec Rock Island 1911. It is accurate and fun to shoot. But it is larger than my Ruger P95. It takes a large framed man to conceal the P95 comfortably. You can conceal a milspec 1911 but it's going to be near 12 o'clock or 6 o'clock and IWB. I have seen people conceal milspec 1911's. For the effort and discomfort required I would rather stuff my Super Blackhawk in my pants. At least I will have an accurate 44 mag.

Can one conceal a full sized,Steel (GI) 1911? Yes. Would it be my first choice? No.
I'd steer toward a Alloy frame commander style for general use + carry.
Additionally: Officers Model or CCO if range use isn't a priority.
What's your budget? Priorities?

The American Classic is made by MetroArms. It's a well built, reliable and accurate gun at a price that's hard to beat.

Both SS and Blued finsh will dull over time. SS may take a little longer depending on the holster and care of your firearm. A friend of mine just picked up a S&W 1911 over the weekend and it is a sweet pistol. I think he paid $837 out the door. He got the SS but he is mainly going to use it at the range and for home defense. Good luck with your purchase!

Yeah I know, I have one. That's why it was mentioned.

If you want a 1911 for open carry then size doesn't matter, but for concealed I would go with commander size
