1911 build

Well my brother in law has finally convinced me I need to build my own 1911, he is retired army and was a small arms specialist E6 or E7 and builds all kinds of firearms mainly hunting rifles now but he has built several 1911's through the years. He lives in upstate NY across the lake from Vermont where he has several suppliers he buys from and one of them is Caspian Arms Caspian Arms Ltd.
you may have heard of them, I never had but that don't mean much anyway I going to buy my receiver and slide and maybe the barrel, at Caspian Arms, I'm getting the Stainless Steel Recon Receiver and the Stainless Steel Government Slide. All the small parts and accessories I'm getting from Brownells Wilson Combat line. My brother in law is going to make the grips, I hope to start on it Labor day weekend. I'm gonna try to have pictures of the assembly and the final product sometime in September, this is gonna be fun.

Caspian makes some very good stuff. Take it slow & easy as you're fitting parts - it's REAL easy to screw them up by going to fast...

Spend a few bucks and buy both Kuhnhausen's books. Brownells.com has them in stock. Specs, assembly, troubleshooting are all layed out in an easy to read manner. And should be the first place where you will find the answer to most of any problems that arises.
Good Luck!

Congratulations. That's a great project, one that I'd like to try myself some day. I'll be following along.

I've got one I did on a Fusion frame (bad pics included) in the DIY section.

I built put one together on a Caspian frame I got from Brownell's. I used an ARMSCOR slide. The internals are a variety of manufacturers including a few parts from a SARCO kit. It was my first build and likely my last.
It began like this.

EDH, looks good! May I suggest that you stop by the "Introductions" area and tell us a little about yourself?
