Default 1911 barrel/caliber swap

I was watching a video earlier, and in it they were talking about barrel swaps. (10mm to 40 S&W). This made me curious.

If I wanted to do something like change my 45 ACP into something based off the 45ACP casing, would all I have to do is change the barrel? I read that .400 Cor Bon is basically a 45 ACP shell necked down to .40 caliber. Would that round work in a 1911 if I just changed the barrel?

What other rounds could work?

This is mostly out of curiosity. I don't plan on doing this for at least a while.

One more question. I think the .400 Cor Bon has a higher pressure than a 45 ACP. Would they be too hard on the gun?

I know that several makers sell a 460 Rowland conversion kit. It is kind of like a 45 acp mag. Sort of. Canebrake has one that he has talked about before. Perhaps he can point you in the right direction.

I don't think he's been on in a while.

460 Rowland? Sounds interesting, but can a regular 1911 handle that?

Yes. They say on the website that any quality 1911 can be used. They don't recommend using RIA or low end guns. Let me see if I can remember the website.

Here is a link to one of the websites.

http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/rowland.htm

Apparently Buffalo Bore makes 460 Rowland ammo that shoots a 255 grain bullet at 1300 fps.

That is getting close to 44 mag performance. Hodgdon shows 44 mag loads at 240 grain bullet at 1250 - 1582 fps depending on which powder you use.

The 460 Rowland is a serious round.

What about the .50 G I?
Doesn't that use a .45ACP slide?
