the Remington R1 if you have American made. very well made, excellent finish, and accuracy is definately top notch. i bought the R1 Enhanced, and it makes me look good as a shooter!

There are deals to be had if you open your choices to used.

I've picked up a couple that had a retail price over $1200 for less than $900 (one was a Dan Wesson C-BOB in 10mm).
The stickies at the beginning of this forum are of great assistance.

If you want US-made best 1911 for $1000, check out the STI Trojan. Amazing company out of Texas and they make a great gun.

IIRC, some are made in Brazil and some are made in Brazil then assembled in the USA.

At that price point looking for an American made gun I'd suggest a Kimber. There are several models in that price, several more over too...

Default Too many options

I have two Colts and still think it is a great choice but if I had to buy just one, it w be STI. They make great competition guns and should have something in your budget.

Hard to get apple to apple comparisons forged vs MiM parts etc. While I may be stepping in it - in more ways than one - May/April 2009 American handguner - SW put forged parts in their Performance Line and Spared no expense to do so.
If all things being equal - why use a more expensive part ?

There are some knowledgeable members who can & will tell you where every corner was cut to get a pistol into a specific price point. If you only shoot once a month, you may never be able to tell the difference.

Others just like to have "the best" equipment period and hope they never need the difference between great vs ordinary.

Your money, your call. Good luck !

Ill never understand peoples love for kimber. I understand they make an ok 1911. But why deal with a**holes? Plus why pay 1400$ for something with a one year warranty?
