I've always been a fan of the 1911 but there are too many manufactures of it.

Who is your favorite 1911 manufacture?

I've only owned Springfields, so I suppose I am biased. I first had a loaded stainless model. Then when the WW2 GI model came out, I bought that and sold the stainless, as I can shoot much better with the GI. I also have the ultra-compact version of the GI.

I've never owned a 1911 but I've shot quite a few. I would have to say my personal favorite for shooting is Kimber's 1911. In my hands it felt better balanced.

there is nothing wrong with the Charles Daly..I have had no problems with it what so ever and it is half the price of a springfield...

Rock Island Armory 1911a1

About 6 months ago I bought a new one, being I was limited on money and a partial to the old government model .45 autos. Thinking the price was right $350.00 U.S. it came with 2 stainless mags.

The workman ship was better then fair, the finish was good, and the feel was great. Taking it out with 8 boxes of 230 gr. Ball ammo I ran into a problem. When the slide picked up the new round it hit the ramp and road up to the chamber where the nose of the bullet would hit the top of the chamber about mid way in and stick that way. Most times a simple push on the back of the slide would dislodge it and then it would seat right for firing.

Thinking that it was just new and needed a few rounds burnt in, I continued to fire it with a jam every few rounds. After a box of rounds fired I begin to think it was maybe the Mags. Checking them they seemed to be nothing wrong, using some of the 11 others I had they also jammed the same way. So it cannot be mags. One at least would of worked right out of 13 total mags.

Putting it away I went home and cleaned it and finding nothing visibly wrong I went on line and found a few suggestions, one being to lightly sand the top of the chamber with 1000 grit sand paper to take any burrs off and also the ramp. Doing this I returned to the range to run some more rounds through it and had the same problem. The ramp and chamber are polished to a high shine so there are no burrs on them now.

Going back on line I found a Police Officer who is also a gun smith and he was asked about this same problem, he had no idea sense he had no dealings with the R.I.A. version of the .45 auto. He actually went out and bought two to test and see if he had the same problem. Yes he did and after working on them quite a bit he found that the extractor was the problem. The extractor in the new 1911a1ís from R.I.A. were bent to much and put undue pressure on the rim of the cartridge not letting it ride up all the way against the back of the slide. He recommended replacing it with one from a colt Gov. model, after doing this I had no more problems. I hope this may help anyone thinking of buying this handgun. I am quite happy with it now.

I have a Kiimber and it's OK. I've shot a Wilson Combat and it was awesome. One day I'll decide to spend that much cash on a 1911, but in the mean time, I'll make do.

I just bought a Kimber Pro Raptor II on Apr 4th. I have only put about 60 rounds thru it but it is sweet.

1911 Fav Manuf?
Hello all

Ron L here = Seresurplus

I have owned 1911's from Colt to Para to Springfield Armory and More, I now Use and carry a out of the Box Rock Island 1911A1, I did break it in, have never had a Jam and carry HP or FMJ, never a falure to feed or eject! For the $, best I've seen, hell, Many other More expensive 1911's have not been near as reliable out of the box, including Springfield and Colt@!
