I always regretted selling my Springfield 1911 back in 1992. However times were tough and I needed the cash. I told myself I'd replace it one day and when that day came 7 years ago, I was introduced to the Springfield XD .45. I never regretted purchasing that gun and it is still a favorite. After all, two 13 round mags of .45 is a lot to be reckoned with and it has performed admirably.

Still, I love the 1911 design/feel and got the itch last year. Did a lot of research and finally settled on the Remington R1 stainless (matte). Added some black G10 VZ grips and absolutely love this weapon. It's been flawless in performance and by catching it on sale at Davidson's, I have a lifetime warranty to boot.

Of course, I don't shoot competitively nor do I spend much time in the mud, so I can't speak for how well it'll perform when the SHTF but, at the time and for the money, I made the decision that was right for me.

Not knocking any other brand by any stretch, just know that in the same way you can spend $$$$ for a Ferrari, you can get as much value from a Volvo, Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, etc. In my opinion, it all depends on your need. If you're looking for an investment, go high end and put it in a trophy case. If you're looking for a "daily driver" go with a workhorse.

Opinions are all over the board but what really matters is that you buy what fits your needs best, and maintain it properly.

I don't own anything but colt 1911. For the money I feel colt is best. I have the new agent, defender, officer compact, and govt. carry my new agent every day.

I am a Colt fanboy and just bought another one. But they are at best middle of the road 1911's. WC, Les Baer, Nighthawk, Ed brown, DW and others are far better guns. But something about Colt appeals to me. Maybe because it is the original, looks or other things.

I think that's my nitch limbkiller. It's the original, I'm sure there are better ones or equivalent, but I just like a colt.

Default 1911

When the Least expensive Les Baer, Wilson, or Ed Brown is North of 2K( and many of their models go for much more) I have to "Pass" since I'm not "Racing" 45's anymore( or any others). SASS wild bunch guns are supposed to be stock( if I loose a little more weight and the docs and my PT clear me, that might be my next thing I try)unless I get into shooting steel standing still,...
Let's just try 22's first...
