Default 10rd 1911 Mags???

Found some 10rd mags on eBay that I'm not familiar with. It's not like the old "Executive" Wilson's used to sell. Guy offers them with or without sleeves to cover the gap between the well and the bottom of the mag. Advertised as "made in the USA". Anyone here have a clue to the manufacturer and/or reliability?

I solely use Chip McCormick 10rd Power Mags. I have had 100% reliabilty with them. They are made in the USA, and could be had with, or without the base cover. I think they always come with them now. I do however, dislike the new follower in the Power Mag+ (PLUS). Some people rave about them, but I had a couple issues. I say if the original design wasn't broke, why mess with it.

Which mags on ebay are you referring to? There are many.

I use Tripp Research 1911 mags. They've been working OK. I have three 8 round (full size) and three 7 round (compact size). They make a 10 round but I haven't tried it yet.

I agree! I've been using his "shooting star" 8rd mags for many years and never had a hiccup. I can't say that for ~any~ other mfgr.

The 10 round was used in some USPSA and IPSC sports. Most are finicky unless tuned for your ammo and gun.

I am leery of purchasing parts or accessories from e-bay. A lot of people selling really do not know what they are selling and will associate a known name with a no-name parts. Buyer beware!

$30? Really? For unknown manufacturer magazines?

You can buy Chip McCormick Power Mags from Midway for $28. The Power Mag Plus magazines are $30. Do yourself a favor and buy the CMC magazines. The Power Mag Plus magazines have a redesigned follower. I have 15 ten round magazines. Five Tripp magazines, 5 CMC Power Mags, and 5 CMC Power Mag Plus magazines.

After using three different type 10 round magazines for the past year - I like the CMC Power Mag Plus because of the follower and the full wrap around bumper on the bottom of the magazine.

If it were my choice for $30 - I'd forget the unknown manufacturer Ebay magazines and get the Power Mag Plus magazines.

i have to agree that with no information as to who made them, and at $30, i would have to pass on them. i pay about the same price for Wilson Combat 8 round mags at my LGS and have very good luck with them.

If you're going to spend that much cash, why not get the best?

Tripp Research Gen II Cobra Mags.

Call Aaron @ Tripp (877.837.9445) and order the 10R-45-RG. (Tell him canebrake said hi.)

They work!

The above is a 10R-45-RG with the optional alloy base.

The problem with the Tripp magazines is the tiny piece of hard plastic at the front of the magazine. You can overinsert the magazine in a gun with a magwell, and the piece of plastic chips and the mag is useless if you don't treat them "nicely." The CMC magazines use a rubber material that wraps around the entire magazine eliminating both problems.

While you're an ongoing vocal advocate for Tripp whenever possible - it would really behoove you to look past a single manufacturer once in awhile. Tripp isn't "the best" for everything.
