Default 10mm 1911

I've been looking at 10mm 1911 for awhile now - set on this decision and was wanting some first hand accounts of them.

The two in particular are: (1) Springfield Omega and (2) Colt Delta Elite. Other than those made by Kase Reeder these are the only two of which I know (and his price is well out of my current feasible range).

I have fired both and liked them about the same, one slightly more than the other but I would really love to hear from those who have owned them and their experiences and views on them. Also; any other recommendations of 10mm 1911s is welcome. I look forward to seeing responses. Thanks in advance as well!

How about the Bren Ten that Crockett carried on the first season of Miami Vice.

Although some will never buy used, there are plenty to obtain.

CZ-Dan Wesson is good. I think Kimber made a couple. RIA has made one, also.

Fusion makes some nice 1911s in 10mm. I've thought about one with a long slide.

This will upset some folks but, I also like the Glock 20sf and find it more pleasant to shoot for a 10mm.

Hijacking the thread a bit, but I would agree, one should shoot a Glock 20 before getting a 1911. You might like it better.

Unless you have large hands, the Glock 20 is terribly wide and blocky feeling. My father just bought one for Christmas and it's like holding a 2x4.

I'm kind of the resident 10mm collector and shooter. I currently have 3 1911s in 10mm.

The Omega is no longer in production and will be difficult to find. The Delta Elite is a good gun, but the sights are regular GI style and they SUCK in my opinion. Especially if you're used to combat style sights like Novak and others. Up until recently, the Delta Elite was the cheapest 1911 in 10mm selling at right around $1000.

However, Rock Island Armory just introduced one of their Tactical models in 10mm at the SHOT Show in January of this year. They are still difficult to come by, but I happen to have one that is for sale and still new in the box and unfired. PM in you're interested. The first batch that came out for sale were priced at $600. But that was before Sandy Hook and all the price inflation. They are selling for more than that now, especially considering they are still a newly introduced model. But prices are well under the $1000 mark.

From their, you can look into the Kimber models that are 10mm. Kimber's base model, the Custom II, comes in 10mm and those are selling for around $1200 to $1300, provided you can find one. They also make a 10mm in their Eclipse model, but those are starting around $1400.

You can also consider that Dan Wesson also makes 10mm guns. Their current production has been halted due to a fire at their factory, but you might be able to find a used Dan Wesson in 10mm. Prices for those will start around $1400 and likely go up to close to $2000 since they are a limited production gun and many people fight and pay premiums for them.

So off the top of my head, those are the best options for 1911s in 10mm. Of the 3 that I have, two are Dan Wessons and one is a Rock Island Armory.

Thanks everyone for the input. I think I will put it off until looking at a DW and definitely a Fusion. I gasped when I saw their webpage. Utterly beautiful.

As for the Glocks, I think they make a fine firearm but they're just not my preference. Nothing wrong with them, just a preference.

Plan on at least a year wait for a Fusion to be built.

I waited almost three months for a fitted slide, frame, and barrel in .45 from them a few years ago. Took me another couple months to finish building and finishing. So, yes if you go with Fusion be prepared to wait.

I think 10mm is an awesome round! My current collection consist of a DeltaElite a Kimber Eclipse,a Fusion longslide hunter,a Glock20 with 6"KKM barrel, and a EAA P-F carry. The Glock is the softess shooter, the fusion and kimber tie for most accurate.I just ordered a EAA Witness Hunter that I think should be an awesome handgun, should be here in a couple weeks. If ya order a Fusion allow at least 6mo. for delivery.
