What's a Glock 17 worth?

Hey there Glock fans, I've had someone offer me a Glock 17 in trade for something I'm selling. I have a good grasp of the true worth of what I have, but wanted to know what a G17 is bringing these days. Not as much as a G19 I'd imagine, though I don't have any 9mm handguns (Just my SR1911 and a Ruger Mk II for now).

Any of the early gen G17's worth more or about the same as current?

My lgs has g17s and g19s for around $600 give or take. What are you selling that he wants to trade for?

How many rounds through the weapon/condition? This would be a major factor in the price.

Also, what generation?

True market retail value is about $530 for Gen3's and $570 for Gen4's.
Any more than that, and you are kinda getting ripped off.

I just picked up a NIB Gen3 19 for $475!!! :D

A new Glock goes for about $550. A like new Glock goes for about $440-480 around here. Those prices apply regardless of frame size and caliber. I have two Glocks (G27 and G23). Both were bought used, but about 99% new (I think someone bought new, ran a box or two of ammo through them, and didn't love the experience). I paid about $450 each.

The only thing that will sway with value is if it's been shot to death, beat up, heavily customized, or if there are substantial upgrades (night sights, improved trigger, extra mags, etc).

I just bought a new G19. Before I ever saw the gun I had a Glockworx race connector installed and the springs changed. I left the firing pin and firing pin spring stock. I gave $600 plus a $30 FFL fee for the gen 4 G19 with the trigger modifications. I could have got the gun for $510 NIB without any modifications.

I have seen used Glocks go from $200 to crazy money. It depends on the condition of the gun and the reputation of the owner. I would not pay over $350 for a used Glock unless there are extras like magazines and ammo. When you buy a new gun you get a warranty and customer support in case you have technical issues. I steer clear of any gun that is in new condition. The chances are to high that the owner wants to ditch the gun because it is a lemon. There are always exceptions and your mileage may vary.

If you look around you can find police trade in Glock pistols at good prices with night sights. The last police trade in's I saw were gen3 with night sights for $350.

Really may depend in what generation of Glock, overall condition, accessories that may come with it, and any upgraded parts.

My cheapest Glock is a 2nd generation 17 that was a police trade in. Had a lot of holster wear and had been shot a lot. Night sights were very dim as well. I paid under $300 for it, but it was a bundle deal where friends of mine also bought similar guns from the shop at the same time.

The things were made in high numbers, very few are unique. They shouldn't be expensive.

Gen 1 may be mildly collectible, but generally the newer the better. The 25th Anniversary Edition will fetch a little more. The G17 and the G19 are roughly the same value. A used Glock in VG+ cond is worth roughly $400 in a private sale, give or take. Add about $20 for Gen 4, take off $20 for Gen 3.

There are some Glock collectors out there who like the early generations but those collectors are relatively few and far between so I don't think an early G17 would be worth more than normal unless it is something special. Gen's 3 & 4 are worth about what the fine posters have indicated in the earlier posts. Regardless of gen, the Glock is covered by the factory and customer service will take care of your gun, if you get it, unless there have been extreme modifications to it, like stripping the finish and chroming it or drilling/milling it, etc. I have even seen Glock take care of a gun that had been terribly abused for a very small fee. So I would not be afraid to buy a used Glock, or a new one either.

hmmmmmmm
I wouldn't pay over $150, but wouldn't sell for under $500 . . . . unless something shiny catches my eye.
