Not to worry. Most venomous snakes come equipped with a pretty reliable delivery system.

Yes, your correct.

The way people get sick from ingesting snake venom is if they have a sore/injury/ulcer somewhere between their lips and butt hole.

If I remember correctly from Zoology class, pit vipers, rattlers, cottonmouths cause damage to muscles and tissue primarily localized in adults. However if Mr. viper got lucky and hit a vein or something then a higher does of venom could reach the heart which is a muscle.

I have always been more worried about bees, ticks, chiggers, skeeters and other bugs than snakes when hunting or otherwise tromping through the woods in the south.

Even more with the ticks up here in Lyme disease country.

There are two venoms most prevalent in the animal world. Neurotoxin and necrotoxin. Neuro attacks the nervous system, and necro attacks the flesh and muscle.
