I just got into the sport and started with a Glock 19. I really enjoy the gun, but when I put in the magazine - with or without bullets - I feel as if the magazine isn't held tight. There's about a 1/8" gap from the foot of the magazine to the bottom of the handgrip. I can push the magazine up, but it comes back down. It just feels 'loose'. Is this normal? Should there be some play? If this isn't correct, how do I rectify this? I bought the gun brand new, so it's not an issue of a previous user.

I'm not overly familiar with Glocks, but it seems to me that you're not locking the magazine all the way in. Give it a nice firm tap with your hand, see if it seats the rest of the way.

How many rounds are on the pistol?

I've tried slapping the magazine a bit harder and it doesn't set firm. I'd only put maybe 200 rounds through the gun. But I'm guessing from your response that this isn't a good thing?

Also, again since I'm a nOOb, this means I can load 15 in, chamber 1, then eject the magazine and load another so I've got 15+1, correct?

I've been googling pictures of the Glock 19, and they all seem to have a smaller gap than mine. How much 'wiggle room' does yours have?

I've seen it happen in 1911s and H&K USPs, among a few others. The new magazine and release just don't jive properly and it takes some time (beating) for them to marry.

Give it a good whack with the butt of your hand, see if it seats. If it doesn't, pull the slide and insert the magazine, see if it seats. If it doesn't look to see where it's hanging up.

I just registered to answer your problem.

Glock came out with new magazines for use with their new ambi release models. These have a small metal window in them and are also a little taller than the older Glock magazines. The gap is annoying but it is what it is.

15+1 means 15 in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. I usually just load a few into the magazine, insert into gun, then rack slide. It feels easier this way since the mag isnt loaded up all the way.
