Default Looks like Army is going Glock 19

I read this on Military.com

Army Chief Eyeing Glock Pistol as Service's Next Sidearm.

Gen. Mark Milley was interviewed and he is looking at rearming the Army with the Glock 19 as standard sidearm.

Glock would get an order for 287,000 Glock 19's.

The General is trying to cut through all the acquisition red tape bullsh*t
to speed things up.

That would save the government about $300,000,000 or more but I would have thought a G17. Too simple so it probably wont happen.

And Gen. Milley will receive a very big check from Glock in an envelope marked personal only, do not open.

No checks. Cash or a future high paying position.

I've heard he wants the juice, but no way is the bureaucracy gonna let Gen. Milley arbitrarily make this decision. Too much money involved. Hadn't heard of any particular brand either.

I'd say to go with the 17, but, whatever. It's a sidearm. It could slow down delivery on civy 19s though if the order did go through.

I agree, I'd expect the full size G17 too. And with a grip safety. But the G19 makes a lot of sense, just the right size.

G19s already have been a little hard to find since December. When a gun store gets them in they fly off the shelf. I just got a FDE Gen 4 and was just lucky I walked in the right store right after they accepted delivery.

I could see the military wanting a manual thumb safety, but a grip safety is about useless on a Glock. It is really a drop safety. Resting your hand on the backstrap as you establish a grip deactivates it, just like putting your finger in the trigger deactivated the trigger safety. I'm not a fan of grip safeties. Browning didn't include it in the original design. Army wanted it for cavalry units in case it got dropped. Not to many horse mounted troops anymore and the striker block works as a drop safety.

Yeah, the Army would have to rewrite the required features of their sidearm. I'm no fan of the grip safety, just know that it's been a military issue requirement for 100 years. Maybe it's time to modernize! The G19 would be a good start.

This isn't going to end well. The Army is going to switch from 2 external safeties

to NONE? Guys, no offense, these dudes are not the sharpest tools in the shed,

or they would be in the Navy or Air Force.

The Army brass is going to be pissed, if they see a spike in ADs, and have to replace

all those sidearms...
