Glock gen 4 question
I just picked up a model 17 and took it out for a test run tonight.. on previous models when the gun runs dry and you reload the slide would close when you insert a fresh mag, this gen 4 doesnt do that?? Is this normal ? If it is I dont like it lol that was one of the only things I really liked about glocks

I personally would not want a pistol whose slide goes into battery when a full mag is inserted. That doesn't seem right. Mine have never done that, you have to depress the slide stop.

On reloads, I always had/have to drop the slide, that's why I put the extended slide stop lever on mine.

You either need to pull back and release the slide (sling shot) or press down on the slide stop to release the slide. It is not an auto release function, on any Glock.
If previous Glocks auto released you had a bent slide stop

if you only like glocks for that reason; your issue is not with the gun.

Huh didn't realixze I thought that was normal for Glocks. My 21 I got brand new and does it, I also Had a used 17 last week that I got and traded for the gen four new.. So I guess the old one had an issue.. I will have to check my new 22 and see if that does it.

A lot of pistols will release the slide when seating the mag hard. It's just basic inertia, when the mag slams home the jarring will allow the slide stop to drop down enough to release the slide.
I try to pull down the release every time, just in case it doesn't release on its own.
Its very likely once your new glock loosens up a bit it may start auto releasing.

Just talked to a friend who is a firearms inst and glock armourer and he said its normal condition for Glocks.

It is not normal for Glocks, or any pistols. But it is not uncommon in any well worn pistol. I have Glocks with beaucoup thousands of rounds through them that have never done it. And I run them hard, with no babying.
And, yes, I am a Glock Armorer (24 years) and Glock Transitional Police Instructor (24 years), among other nifty certifications.
