As of today I have no expirence with the 42 but I do have some .380 experience so I will chip in if I may, looks like you are on the right path to testing and looks like all the ammo performed as expected. My view on the .380 is it's better then nothing which is why I carry a ruger lcp. I am surprised you had problems with PMC as that is my generic go to ammo and I have never had a problem with it. The way I run most of my guns is in the summer I will carry hollow points and the winter I run a heavier grn ball ammo (people wear thicker clothes in the winter).
As with every round there is no magical .380 so it is entirely up to you to run a hot hollow point or reguler ball ammo, if you dump 7 rounds (for me) center mass I don't think you will here any complaint from a perp about the difference.
That is sad to hear about the PMC ammo though because it is one of my favorite brands.
