Take it easy fellas, I think there was just a misunderstanding, no big deal. I think we all agree, when the slide is locked back and new mag inserted, it should stay locked back. Sometimes it doesn't, and one explanation I heard is that slamming the new mag in makes the polymer frame flex just a little bit, but that little bit is enough to release the slide. I don't know if that's true or not, but I found it To be an interesting idea.

It is common in steel framed semiautos. The mag bump itself is enough to touch off the slide, because the catch is shallow and is not designed to withstand a perpendicular motion.

thanks for all comments.

I expected inserting a fresh mag would close the slide on my 30s as it does consistently on my 21 and s&w bodyguard 380 - my only other semi guns to compare to.

I like it closing so I don't have to take time to do it - thought that was a good thing if one had to reload quickly in a SD move for instance. and in discussions on the bodyguard forums, it is considered a defect to not close....
