Glock 17 in OD - semi-rare?
My wife will be the proud owner of a Glock 17 in 9 more days.
It happens to be an Olive Drab version. We had the store owner hunt one
down for us. The color is a true olive drab green and not the desert tan
color.
There seemed to be 2-3 other employees that were in disbelief that we had
one on order.
Why is OD hard to get?
And just how rare is it?

I've seen them before. I don't think they are rare or anything. A lot of people seem to go to the standard black ones. I liked the look of the OD green ones. It takes away a little of that Glock fugly...heh

"Semi-rare" isn't the right word. "Low-demand" is accurate. You can definitely find some Gen 3 Glocks in OD ( Buy glock od & Sell glock od Items at GunBroker.com ), but don't hold your breath on a non-black Gen4 Glock, so far Glock hasn't indicated if they will make them. So, as Gen4 models take over the prevailing inventories, yes, they will then start becoming rare (assuming Glock never makes them for Gen4 models).

Police officers don't carry green guns (unless they're the green police).

So far the story I was told, Glock never made guns in a non-black. 1 gun
distributor for a limited time (in an effort to make more sales) made an OD
version and is no-longer available. I'm sure that if the gun
distributor did it once, they can do it again.
QUESTION: Are there after market parts to change to OD if we bought a black?

Since noone has answered your question, the answer is yes. Brownells sells aluma-hyde II.

So there is no kit. Just spray paint...
that sounds crappy. I would rather not spray paint the handle.

Glock did make the green receivers but will no longer be doing so. Since the green is the color of the material that was used to make the receiver, the only way to change the color is to "paint" it.

For the last couple weeks Bud's has had them (all OD Glocks) on discontinuation sale. They're asking $494 for OD model 17s.
I'm sort of indifferent to Glocks, but if given the choice I'd go with the OD myself.

Awesome. We paid $520 no shipping or extra FFL fees.
I realize I must be the odd one out, but I don't like all-black anything, unless its the actual Bat mobile.
All black guns = boring
All black cars = boring
All black outfits = usually boring (unless on a hot chick with contrasting completion)
Just a splash of color goes a long way. OD w/Black = awesome.
