Concealed Carry Permit

I have a few questions about concealed carry permits:

1) Do you have a concealed carry permit?
2) What was your experience with the training?
3) What were the total charges for training?
4) Was there a charge to submit to your state after the training?
5) Anyone else in North Carolina?
I am going to a concealed carry class next weekend...all day $75.
Just want to know what to expect. Thanks

1 Yes
2 Fine, full day, mostly videos, "open-book" test but self-graded, score not recorded anywhere... Had to live-fire (50 rds.) at a short-range target to prove ability to load/handle gun safely(!) and direct fire accurately enough and safely(!). (Don't worry, you don't have to be Annie Oakley but you need to walk in there knowing the basics of safety(!), loading and firing.)
3 $100 + gun rental & ammo (@$12 I think).
4 Yes, $100 including application fee and fingerprinting... You have to go to your local police for this... Some areas require three references... (In my county they don't... They contact ONLY your doctor (!) who has to attest to your stability and character)... And, of course, they check your records concerning any law enforcement contact/issues.
5 Yes, NC... In this (metro) area where I am it takes a full 3 months from submission of paperwork to receipt of CCW... Other areas can be less than that depending on manpower and CCW-attitude of local officials.

I don't want to sound like an old school teacher correcting you but you would probably get more answers and better information if you posted this same question in the "Concealed Carry and Personal Protection" thread here in the handgun heading.

1) Do you have a concealed carry permit? Yes
2) What was your experience with the training? Extremely poor, bordering on pathetic. A number of the people didn't own a weapon nor had they fired one and struggled to hit a man sized target at 7 yards.
3) What were the total charges for training? $75 plus $90 to apply for the permit
4) Was there a charge to submit to your state after the training? Yes, $90.
5) Anyone else in North Carolina? Yes, about 30 minutes from you.

You'll waste an entire day listening to someone tell you things that are nothing more then common sense or simple firearms safety and throw $75 away at the same time. You will spend a bunch of time in a classroom watching old videos and wishing you had gotten a bigger cup of coffee.

Mods, please move this to the correct area.

I have "sat'' in on 3 different CC class deals. Each time I have enjoyed the 'class' approach. Many questions that are ?simple? are asked. Sometimes the true answer is a surprise.

Follow up with your experiences:)

I took my cc class on 8/27

Great class, even greater instructor. Of course we read the laws and went by the book mostly. The better parts were our instructor telling instances in which he was involved. You could feel the passion and knowledge of firearms with this guy.

$60 from 7-3 on a Saturday with 45min for lunch.

$145.25 was the application fee

3) What were the total charges for training? $75.00, i think and $65. to the sheriff's office plus $10.00 for the freaking pasport pic that the sheriff HAS to take, I could not provide one.
4) Was there a charge to submit to your state after the training? see above
5) Anyone else in North Carolina? KY here

Not sure about NC but I know in Texas you MUST qualify with the gun you plan to carry. can't test with a .22 revolver and carry a .45. That pisses them off.

YES! But it is what it is by way of being a basic CCW class. Mine mainly cover use of force and state law and regulations etc.
