Gunny A says That a thick tree cover is a safe backstop, gunny B says it is not,and a berm or rock ledge is neccesarry. Who's side are you on and why?

I was on a camping trip when somebody was shooting on the other side of some trees. The bullets came through several times. They came rambling through the camp. We were pissed.

Just how thick and deep is the thick tree cover? What's beyond it? How many rounds are being fired? What caliber?

Not nearly enough info my man. It's fine for a backyard in the boonies and doing some plinking with a .22. But maybe a company or battalion level M240 and .50 Cal shoot? Maybe not.

The tree cover is about 250 yards deep, very thick. A hill that sometimes has livestock and farmers is behind it. Usually the guys shoot 30-30, .22 ,9mm .45

There is no way I would shoot a 30-30 into trees that have people on the other side. I would think that a 30-30 should be able to travel 250 yards. People deer hunt with them out to 150 pretty easily.

Berm of dirt!

NO rock wall!!!!

250 yards of thick trees is iffy, at best, doable if nothing on the other side for some ways..but eventually the dirty turdy will have its was with the brush/foliage then there will be nothing left to stop the bullet. Also, you NEVER know what or who may be in those trees, wandering about. You KNOW theres no one wander in a berm of dirt.
