but my experience of living & hunting in the cold & snow is you are far less agile because of heavier clothing, boots, gloves, walking through knee high snow, etc. as a result movement takes much more effort, so you will be slower & probably tire out quicker. which means you probably wouldn't want to carry anymore weight than necessary, which in the game would probably translate into carrying less ammo, grenades, & weapons
LOL............I would say the true, dedicated digital comando's move their game box thingy out to the driveway in the Winter to keep it real.....

The only thing I ever knew that sometimes got "stuck in the plants" was the whip antenna of the PRC-25.

556 is no worse than anything else in jungle and better than some. Jungle fighting is often CQB-Green. Your enemy can be 20 yards away and you still can't see him. So you rip it up in his direction and try to go in and get him. 556 usually comes in lighter platforms, shorter barrels, higher cyclic rates of fire, all of which are suited for that environment. The ammo is lighter so you can carry more of it in the unbearable humidity. I was very satisfied with our M16s. The only times I wished for larger caliber longer range were when we operated in open rice paddies or plains. Would've liked to have had at least one M14 organically along for the show.

As a postscript OP, let me add that most guys I know--no matter what environment they're fighting in--will pack as much ammo as they can, at the expense of their own comfort. Do I take an extra pair of socks, a tube of Crest and a pack of SlimJims?...or do I make room for another mag?

The socks and Crest are out.
The extra mag and SlimJims are in.

I agree, he does. But, he needs some clarification; was that a suggestion, or an offer?

You cant learn how to cut corners until you know how to make corners perfectly every time first! Experience level in each of those surroundings can be the most important thing in reality and probably gaming as well. The military gave us basic load lists to lesson the learning curve but time on terrain teaches more than any reading or listening ever will.

METT-T was the acronym we used to understand the challenges, strengths and weaknesses every situation has in combat.

http://www.armystudyguide.com/content/Leadersbook_information/Combat_Leaders_Guide/plan-factors-of-mettt-2.shtml

Weather affects everyone in the same ways friend or foe, METT-T takes all the factors into consideration including Terrain.

In the end, games can never recreate the situations that really happen in different terrain and weather conditions even if it looks real. You dont need a good coat to live, you will never smell your own stinkin ass (or your Battle Buddies) after 3 weeks of not bathing and a trip to the refrigerator while the game reboots isnt the reality for a Soldier.

Nah, she's got a point. I've noticed that people who are into video games can't be removed from them without the use of dynamite...Sighhh, outdoor girls.......

- Urban
- Forest
- Night
- Naval

The M4 is strictly a CQB weapon. Unfortunately as a short carbine, it is not fit for much of any other purpose.

The USMC has already partially retired it by replacing 3 out of 4 fire team grunts with 2 old M-16's and an M-14 per team.

The US Army will someday soon discard it completely, now that it's principal theatre (of war) was Iraq.

With your fascination for violent video games, I hope you don't turn into another Sandy Hook or Aurora shooter. In the meantime, get out and go jogging and do some sit ups and pull ups and get ready for the infantry in case you can't do anything else out of high school.
