Default What constitutes A Good Shot/Shooter?

What constitutes A Good Shot?

Is it setting up your firearm in a vice on a bench in perfect weather squeezing off a 10 minute long 5 shot group? Is it putting constant hits on target in a practical setting while under stress?

To me it is being able to hit your target in as small a miss radius as is possible in every concievable circumstance. Its being able to make a snap shot on a squirrel and hit it in the head. Its the ability to shoot all w in the 9 and 10 rings at a fairly long distance for the calibers limits.

A good (rifle, shotgun or pistol) shooter:
Can get consistently hit their target accurately from any shooting position
Is safe with their gun
Has a steady hand
Can shoot quickly and be accurate (time trials)
Can also hit bullseyes at long range (target shooting)
Is not distracted by anything
Can do all of this under pressure

Default What constitutes a good shot?

The one where you make the one shot one kill.
The one where the bullet hits the target in a kill zone.
The one where the object is removed from action.
The one where you get the meat for the week.
The one where you did not miss.
The one that consistently hits the bullseye.
The that stops the enemy where he lays.

I guess that is about all I have to say about that!!!!!!

That is why we have matches. There are shooting matches for all types of firearms. The ability to shoot better than others in your shooting sport will define your ability as a shooter. To become a sniper you must first prove it on paper. To become a Champion Trap Shooter you must break lots of "Blue Rocks".
