I'll be taking the training course for the Utah Non-Resident carry permit on Sunday. Since I'm in the People's Socialist Republic of California, I would never be able to get one here. The Utah permit has reciprocity with quite a few States and I occasionally travel to some of them.

Eventually, if we ever get out of here and up to Oregon, I'll apply for a permit there as well.

On Saturday morning I'll be hitting the range. I got my Beretta 8045 slide back from Trijicon yesterday, so I want to check the sight alignment, I want to put more rounds through the Sistema Colt to continue breaking it in and reliability testing and my S&W Model 37 came back from being DuraCoated and needs shooting as well. I'll bring the Garand just to doublecheck that it's still zeroed.

So it's a major gun weekend.

Let me know how it goes with the Utah permit. I've been thinking of getting that also.

I have a gun weekend planned also. I put a new scope on the AR so I have to go site her in. Then I wanted to put a score up in Tango's rimfire thread. And Sunday I want to sneak over to the indoor range with the Buck Mark. I just got it back from the smith and need the practice.

It was a good training. Jim "Doc" Amentler is the instructor. He's a Navy corpsman and has deployed with the Marines in Iraq. He's a man to be listened to.

The material was good, rather basic in some ways, but also a lot of very interesting info and some legal stuff that's way scary.

Afterward, we had the option of getting our photos, fingerprints and the applications notarized for thirty bucks. They even had 8.5X11 envelopes pre-labeled to the Utah BCI with our return addresses already on the label. It was a very nice touch.

Sandwiches and coffee/cookies were provided, so it was a pleasant experience as well as an informative one.

I'd recommend the training to anyone interested. My application will go out tomorrow.

I mailed the application and all the required stuff out this morning. I'll let you know how long it takes to get the permit. By law, they have sixty days to issue or deny the permit. However, that period starts when they cash the check.
Apparently they are inundated with applications right now. I wonder why.

Is a certificate of course completion required to get the CCW permit?

We got certificates of completion, but they aren't required for the Utah permit. We could also have filed for the Florida non resident permit at the same time, but the FL permit only adds Florida and Kansas. I don't anticipate visiting either one, so I didn't bother. Anyway, money's tight and it's not worth it to me.

The application form has a place for the course instructor to fill out and sign and the form itself must be notarized.

They took passport type photos, fingerprinted us with official Utah print cards and the instructor is also a Notary and notarized our applications. So we were able to get it all done right then and there.

Total cost: $100. for the class, $30. for the photo, prints and notarization, $65.25 to the Utah BCI for a total of $195.25.

Good stuff and I think it's well worth the money.

I checked my bank statement. Utah BCI cashed my check on August 6th. So, by law, they now have sixty days from then to issue or deny my permit.
