BLACKS CREEK – Police are still investigating what appears to be an accidental shooting near Blacks Creek.
Deputies were called to the scene at 4:51 p.m. Saturday. A bystander reported a man had been shot in the stomach.
Ada County Sheriff’s Deputies and Ada County Paramedics responded and learned a 15-year-old and his 43-year-old father had been out target shooting when the teen accidentally shot his dad.
The boy told deputies he was walking and then tripped. As the boy began to fall, he said he accidentally discharged the .22 pistol he was carrying. The father was hit once in the stomach.
The father was airlifted to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center with what appeared to be a non-life-threatening injury.
Detectives investigating the incident say that all information and evidence gathered indicates the 15-year-old unintentionally fired the pistol.
No charges are expected to be filed and police are urging the public to be aware of firearms safety and to follow it at all times.

Aren't .22 rounds one of the most lethal rounds because it ricochets in your body so much instead of ripping through?

I pressed that issue all day yesterday with the children on the fire line. I'm a bit harsh about it too if they mistakigly have the finger in the gaurd off target. Gotta pound the safety into their heads so it becomes natural instinct.

why the hell was the boy walking around with the pistol unholsered? Finger on the trigger unsafe, walking with it unholstered not much safer, not like he was in Close quarters combat.
