Default SAAMI unsafe cartridge interchangability

From the SAAMI.org website.

This is a link to those cartridges considered unsafe if swapped.

i'm curious about the 410. no metallic cartridges? what about the Taurus Judge and the some of the others using a 410 shotshell and a 45 Colt in the same chamber.

The Judge is not a .410 shotgun. What they are referring to is taking your single shot vintage 1902 Iver Johnson top break .410, and tosssing a .44 Magnum in there (Well, hey- it fits, doesn't it? )

Markings on the Judge, IIRC are .45 Colt/ 410

then the Judge is actually chambered for the 45 Colt and able to use the 410?

Yep. 45 Colt headspaces off the rim, as does .410. Problem w/ .410 and metallic catridges is that .410 SHOTGUNS are built to operate at much lower pressures, AND have a .410 bore (not meant for .44 or 45 bullets) The Thompson contender also had a .45 Colt/ .410 bbl.

There IS a video of some guys trying to destroy a modern day top break .410, even running a .444 Marlin thru it (remote control firing) and did not blow up the gun. HOWEVER, that is tap dancing in a minefield!
