Why are you bringing the gun back to retention after you engage the target the first time?

It's habit for me.


I take retention very seriously, so I incorporate it into my drills. Once a string a fire is complete I always return my sidearm to the retention ready.

That makes some sense.

However, in the situation you are simulating, returning to retention does not make any sense, until after the threat is completely neutralized...
