Default Preparing for CCW

I've been around guns most of my life, love them to the core. So the safety of my environment goes above most things with them. But have never been able to conceal carry, still not quite old enough. My question is, do you think gun safety classes would be necessary?

Well in most states you have to take a safety course of some sort (state specific) in order to get your CCW license. Is that enough? In my view, yes. Some states are more strict than others. Personally I think the individual knows better than anyone else if he's ready to carry. As long as you understand all the legalities associated with it and are reasonably proficient, I think you will know when you feel comfortable enough to carry concealed.

That may not have been helpful at all, now that I think of it....

There's a class I've got to take to get the CCW, basically to let them know I know which end the bullets come out of, but that's it.
And I appreciate the input

Most of the state mandated CCW training concerns legal issues. The rules for carry and use. The rest of the traning allows the instructor to judge if you are a sound candidate for carrying a concealed firearm. Conduct yourself as a responsible gun owner and follow all range commands.
NRA Certified Inst.

Here in texas the course is 8 hours for the first time and 4 hours for Renew. Then you have to renew every 5 years. The first 4 hours is basic safety training like this is a gun it goes bang. The next 4 is where you can conceal and the current laws and shooting, you have to score a certain score on the shooting test to pass. Though I believe it is not necessary training for most of us, there are a few here and there just decide out of the blue to get a gun and carry NOW! So for that I appreciate the class and put up with it without complaints. Plus I usually get to meet some pretty cool people!

Texas has some very strict rules concerning CCWs. I am in a Constitutional carry state no CCW for a citizen to carry concealed or open. We do offer permits so citizens can travel to other states.

You hail a cab, and as you enter the back seat, a woman is being rapped inside. The driver is buzz drunk on caffeine drinks, and wearing headphones. You have a 45 on your hip. What do you do?

You go to enter an elevator and four guys are standing inside with baseball bats. Again you have your 45, what do you do?

Your neighbor is beating to death, your cherished pet dog, on his side of the fence, with his garden shovel. Again, you have your 45, what do you do?

How you answer these threats, depending on what state you live in, will determine your level of freedoms over the next days, months, years. A CHP class by the NRA is a requirement in my state, and most states. Taking such a class, will tell you where your responsibilities are when you are attacked, see someone else being attacked, and how to limit yourself to attacks in the first place.

Those are interesting questions. However it is not that simple. The results of these confrontations will vary greatly from one jurisdiction to another. We now have racial complication and other social conditions to consider.
