Matt you are one of them Hooah guys that we would look at and say man that guy is either A. Crazy B. Has the biggest nuts in the world. or C. BOTH.
Used to dig the forward hide for the M113 with the laser on top (I forget the real name) for calling arty.
We were out with 1st Cav one time and the arty guys got turned around backwards and started shooting off Fort Hood. Blew up some guys back yard.
I went from CosCom to a very low speed unit that was a garrison unit. ( I went nuts in that unit) 99% of the people there had not shot an M-16 since basic training. Some were even SPC (P) that had not qualified in 4 years. |

It is a FIST-V. I want to say it is an M-981. We used to do a lot of work with the FIST and FOX teams.
A good friend of mine used to tell me that there is a fine line between balls and stupidity. I might have crossed that line on more than one occasion. It was a job, someone had to do it, and I had way too much fun doing it. |

I had way toooooo much fun in the field with the 1st cav.
I once got a BN Commander Coin for being the only person in the BSA to get a shot off at an attacking A-10. Even though I would not have even made the piolt worried shooting at an A-10 with an M-16. Kind of a feable attempt. But the who Company of MP with M-2 did not even get a shot off.
We were out with 1cav when they got the AN-PVS 14B. Man that was a big improvement over the 7B.
What units were you with? I was with HSC 62nd Eng (Combat)BN Heavy. 13th COSCOM at hood. |

In close quarter tactics, sweeping team mates with your muzzle is unavoidable. But, if you've paid attention in training, your finger isn't on the trigger.
As a general rule, you should never point a firearm at anyone or anything that you are not willing to destroy. For that reason, some trainers don't like lasers or mounted lights on guns. In order to use them, you have to point them at folks, sometimes before identifying your target. In that same token, it isn't a good idea to "glass" using your rifle scope while hunting. Again, you are pointing your firearm at things / people you are not willing to destroy. __________________ Sui Juris Cogito, ergo armatum sum NRA Life Member / SAF Member Retired Police Detective '71-'01 / LEOSA Certified Naval Aviation Veteran '65-'69

Since there is no such thing as an unloaded gun this cannot occur! This is as close to insane as I have heard in a while, of course there are those who play Russian Roulette too. __________________ [The odds are always 50/50 |

In Kennesaw, Georgia, a few years ago, a police cadet was shot and killed by an experienced police instructor who was demonstrating something with his service pistol in the classroom. You can never be too careful with the direction of your muzzle. Aside from paintball as a younger man, I don't think I'd like having a gun pointed at me for even training purposes. |

A gun is never "unloaded". Especially guns that you are "sure" are unloaded. You only point a gun at somebody if you want to kill them. Period.
BTW, this is probably the hardest thing to train a youngster in. 1st, just about any movie you watch nowadays has actors pointing guns all over the place. Video games have you pointing guns at anything that moves. Real gun owners NEVER do that.
2nd, kids need to be reminded over and over about this. A kid can go merily along plinking at targets safely for 2 hours in a row, and then lapse and swing a rifle around pointing it all over the place. Time for a long "time-out" and a good talking to. It should be ingrained in every kid from 5 years old on to neve point a gun at anybody. Last edited by biff44; 01-25-2009 at 07:56 PM. |

Only if you intend to shoot that person. A firearm is never UNLOADED! __________________ "Tolerance is the Virtue of a man without Convictions" G. K. Chesterton
