It looks like a good basic kit for a beginner. All the bells & whistles can come as the novice learns more.

A good aspect of putting together something simple like this is its not intimidating. I've seen some lists, including here, that have a LOT of items, that will end up costing a LOT of money. That can be intimidating for someone looking to get into personal defense/survival. They might just forget about it all together or procrastinate until its too late.
This is a great starter list!

SGT looks good to me. I hit the I ain't got a kit people I just may have to start working on that after seeing that little vid.
