No offense everyone. But this thread is several months old now. I have pretty much given up on him. I won't take him to the range because I am afraid he will shoot himself or someone else.

Yeah, didn't really snap to the date of the thread, and nice of you to come back with a reply and update.

Maybe I'm sensitive or something, but I feel sort of bad that he can't do this, I consider it might have been an accomplishment in his life.

Still, I understand that some just can't.

Let it drop and give him several months. After that - IF - and only if, he -wants to - then start him with a .22lr. Get one that fits his hands and is appropriate weight for his capabilities.

Otherwise, you tried.

Rick,

Is it that he doesn't have the upper body strength to control the weapon or ???
You might also try loading or not loading a round into the chamber so he can not see if you did or did not. He may have a severe flinch or push problem when he squeezes it off. If it is that, he will soon learn what he is doing wrong. My farther is his age also and he wouldn't listen either unless I could do this drill and leave no doubt in his mind that he was flinching, pushing or whatever when he fired.
Good luck! And although we can never forget the circumstances forgiveness is good for our soul also. The good book mentions that in great detail. You have my utmost respect for what you are doing!

Thanks Sniper. But this is an old thread. I haven't seen or spoken to my dad in several months now.

Sorry Rick,

I had just read your first post and then jumped to the end of the posts.
Just the same it shows what kind of a person you are and your heart was in the right place. All we can do is try and after that oh well! Some folks choose their own destiny and not a lot we can do about it.
Take Care!!
