I agree texas, it could have been a lot worse for them.

Where does it say it was a 30-06?

It doesn't say it in the article but the News Talk station that I was listening to had an interview with the man and that's where the 30-06 came from.

That morning at about 5:45 a.m., Art Wright was getting familiar with a new rifle when he accidentally fired it into the floor of the home, possibly rupturing a gas line.
"Boom! Cool, it works. Time to hit the woods." WTF?

Yeah I don't get #1 why you would be getting use to a new rifle while its loaded and #2 with said rifle being loaded why in the hell did you pull the trigger!

What a dumb ass.

I follow some common sense rules at home.

1) If it's not the 1 gun being used for HD/SD, it stays unloaded.

2) Always double check to be sure it's unloaded,

every time you pick it up.

3) Wait until arrival at hunting-shooting-range destination to load

any firearm.

The really screwy thing here is 30.06 isn't even close to a HD

caliber...
