I own a private outdoor range. I had it designated as a private range by the county board of commissioners so it would be grandfathered if noise ordinances are passed.

Just from my private range I can tell you to prepare for a lot of opposition in the community. No one wants a shooting range of any fashion near their home. They will fight your range even though they moved there knowing the range existed.

A subdivision was built near my range. I ended up building a mountain of fill dirt over 500 yards long for a noise barrier. Luckily a contractor I know had to cut the top off a hill to build a shopping center. People in the subdivision have shot their own homes in an attempt to blame me or my range. Fortunately they were poor math students. The sheriffs report stated there was no way the bullet came from my range.

We have a ultra modern indoor range owned by the city. It is solely for civilian use and recreation. If cities provide basket ball, tennis courts etc. they can not ignore gun owners. We are also tax payers.

Depends on many factors. I converted a steel horse barn. It is not air tight by any means, but it does keep winter winds off, and the rain off.

John deer this sounds like something I heard on WRAL. Glad nothing came of it and you are still operational. Wasn't there something else like a recreational-agriculture permit involved.
