It just depends... one thing I do know is I will never intervene with a domestic or spousal fight. A woman gettin beat by her man, that is her choice and I bet my life it has happened before.

Now someone getting assaulted by a total stranger... its hard to walk away from that. I have a baseball bat and a knife or 2 in my truck at all times. Maybe approaching the attacker with a bat will make them think twice. Idk, 911 would be called instantly though I can tell you that

I know what I think I would do. From a reasonable distance, yell for them to stop. If they do not stop, tell them I am armed and stop or I will be forced to shoot. Then it's up to them. And at this time, my laser is trained on them hopefully in such a position that they can see it clearly. If they stop, and do not approach me, there is no reason to fire my gun. CCW class teaches you to "never be the aggressor". Hopefully, during this time I am able to call 911 and explain the situation. If it escalates and the beating continues I will yell once again and tell them to stop. If they do not stop I will fire. My yelling is to advise the attacker and anyone in earshot that I am warning them first. Please know that this is what I "think" I will do. The heat of the moment will more than likely dictate what really happens. Fear, anger, worry and shock will all be factors in the outcome.

But approaching the assailants with a baseball bat would make you look like a BG The police are going to have a hard time telling who is who

If you already have bats i suggest you replace them with one of these batons here. that way you can do some ass beating in a classy manner and look professional while doing it that way when law enforcement gets there they wont think your a thug with a baseball bat. theyll see one with a bat and one with a self defense baton. Who side of the story do you think they will listen too? Your average thug probably wont be carrying a baton or its usually people that are trained or are experienced or are carrying it for self defense and personal protection from thugs

and just how much training have you had with a collapsable baton?

and now trying to help another person has to result in a classy beating?

i'm sorry, but this thread just went way too silly for me to continue with.

this is my last contribution to this thread. it's not about looking badazz or tough or trying to be a hero. it's about helping another human being not being assaulted or killed by some thug. some here seem concerned with legal implications or afraid of being mistaken for a thug when the cops show up, or looking to have a "classy looking weapon" so as not be mistaken for a BG. personally i will usee whatever i feel is needed to defend another person and be damned how it looks. my moral compass and ethics override appearances and whatever others think.

I have seen a couple of assaults taking place and in both cases I put a stop to it. Once it was a guy beating on a gal on the street. I stopped the car on the sidewalk and the guy took off, so I called the cops. They were there in seconds.

The other time was in San Francisco late at night near the BART Civic Center/UN Plaza station where there was a rape attempt. My crew of three guys and myself put a stop to it using 7 foot metal pipes we had for the work we were doing. The guy had a knife, but he ran off. The girl was unhurt. I escorted her to the BART station where there are transit police.

I was not carrying in either case. If I had been armed I do not see any reason I would have had to deploy my weapon. If the guy had come after me though that would be a different story.

I have watched that show a few times (or Youtube videos of it) and I have to say I would be one of those people that gets involved on the victim's behalf. I have done it many times in the past.

I did watch one really disturbing episode recently though.

I live in Washington State.
(1) No person in the state shall be placed in legal jeopardy of any kind whatsoever for protecting by any reasonable means necessary, himself or herself, his or her family, or his or her real or personal property, or for coming to the aid of another who is in imminent danger of or the victim of assault, robbery, kidnapping, arson, burglary, rape, murder, or any other violent crime as defined in RCW 9.94A.030.
I would warn the assailant to stop and if he does not I start putting rounds center mass.

When I took my CC class we were instructed that we were not allowed to use any more force then the person being attacked.

Simply stated, if its hand to hand, use hands.
If it were sticks, use sticks. If it were guns then use your gun. Legally we were/are empowered to use no more force then the victim(if who the actual victim is is clear, the apparent victim could have been the aggressor). We've recently adopted the castle laws/doctrine and I'm unsure if or how this my have affected this scenario.
Use extreme caution when becoming toooooo involved. We are all human and our instincts, protection or preservation are strong, just be wise.

Let me state outright that I do not have a CCW and have not taken the course (impossible to obtain in my county).

So if Little Miss Muffett, at 95 lbs soaking wet, sees an assault taking place where a 250 lb. Big bad Wolf is beating down on Little Red Riding Hood, Miss Muffett has to leave her Glock in her tuffet and keep it hand-to-hand?
