I just got certified as an NRA basic pistol instructor.

Last weekend I completed the 17 hour course and today got the E-mail from the NRA accepting my certification.

Just bragging, I guess :)

That's not bragging, that is letting us know that you have reached a certain level of proficiency.

You are to be congratulated, CGS!!

Now start looking for a place to teach classes and earn your money back.

Congrats!!! How did you find a class to take? I have been wanting to this for a while, but none of the local instructors want to tell me, thanks.

I hope you have patience! JK

Congratulations.

Thanks eatmydust, Jager & jw.

Mountainman, you're right. Originally I thought I might just want to work for someone else because I didn't want to start another business. after discussing with a few training counselors and doing the math, there just isn't enough skin on the hog based on the going rate, for two people to be involved in the average size class. So now I am looking for a commercial location (I have been looking for some time, but my criteria has now changed) with shop space for my gunsmithing business and office space for a classroom. Rents are expensive around here!

Colmustard, go to nrainstructors.org you can then click on the class you want to take, "basic pistol instructor". It will show you any and all classes being offered in your area.

Advice, practice your 18 shot 6" group at 50 feet before going to the range to qualify. Seems simple but after the marathon two days of class (17 hours not counting the time I spent at home studying after day 1), the stress induced by the qualification, and my eyes just starting to go bad on me... It took me a few practice targets to qualify. :(

Now, I am thinking of a name for my training company and will continue the hunt for office/shop space... and I need to convince a few of my friends and family to take my first class so I can work out the bugs in my presentation.

Thanks for the info! Good luck on your business!
