DefaultHow do I engage the safety on my new .40 S&W99?

Hey guys just picked up a .40 SW99 but I cant figure out how to engage the safety?

Any thoughts?

There is no safety. The oval plunger on the left side of the slide just ahead of the rear sight is the decocker. My son stole mine and it's his favorite gun...

is that pretty common for a weapon to not have a safety? what would be the advantages?

The safeties are all passive, and quite good. I had a Walther P99 .40 and loved it.

when you say passive i dont quite understand. if i understand correctly the weapon has no safety?

Many guns do not have a manually activated safety. Those guns have what are called "passive" safeties, which means that the safeties automatically engage when the trigger is pulled.

Double action revolvers have operated that way for over 100 years. But just because you don't see the safeties does not mean they are not there.

The one thing to be cognizant of with your P99 is that when you are done firing it, push the decock before holstering it.

Safeties on firearms are all mechanical devices that can and will fail. A safety is not a substitute for safe firearm handling. The only true safety on a firearm is the one between your ears.
