I never had to mortally defend myself with anything, guns included.

That said, "shooting to wound" with a pistol, as popular

as it may seem in Hollywood, is quickly disproved with

a little range time, firing the pistol of your choice.

We all hear a lot about "100 yards" this, "250 yards" that,

but how well do you really shoot a pistol at 25 yards

at the range, under optimum conditions?


IMO, most will agree you are using a pistol for self defense

because a rifle is not handy...

well, thanks for all the philosophy.
I maintain that if I have a clear shot, I'm going for the hand or even the weapon.
also, if they've got the house surrounded, ... I'm not killing a bunch of SWAT guys, much as i would savor the opportunity.

Have you put any thought into just how p1ssed-off a drugged up tweeker would be with a hand wound?

I respect your noble desire to not take a life but in today's world that line of thinking might get you dead.

I also fear that in your attempt to shoot the BG in the hand your miss will result in collateral damage hitting me or one of my love-ones.

With all due respect I think the safe action for all would be not arming yourself.

First off, a self defense shooting is not "shooting to kill". It is shooting to live. Your life is in imminent danger. You use deadly force to protect a life, usually your own.

Second, you would savor killing a bunch of SWAT guys? You should seriously rethink your stance or at least your projection if you want to hang around here. There are a number of members that would take exception to such a statement.

I maintain that i would rather plug someone in the hand and see how it goes, if someone is on crack and they bum-rush me, i'd definitely let 'em have it some more. gear down, big rig .. ..
most home invasion -type situations where an attacker is disarmed put you at an advantage, if it's just me, them, and my .45, no-one needs to die. . . .

also, I am pissed off at the Special Weapons Attack Team. because of their years of unsavory paramilitary activity and becasue they are the ones mowing down gun owners, peaceful potheads, and their dogs every day in america.
I have plenty of family who are RCMP or other police, I'm not anti-law enforcement, but I do think the heads of swat should apologize and we should take a look at all the police state measures we've implemented sicne we decided that we're all guilt until proven innocent.
LEO's are great ppl, on average, but that average is getting dangerously slim every day. wake up, this is not america. I will always defend myself .
