First shot flinch
 
Whenever I shoot my Da/Sa pistol, I always have a first horrible shot because the trigger pull is heavier. Is there any way to stop this?

Take a deep breath and relax before you shoot and practice shooting d/a over and over again.

I'm not able to get in the range often, so would dry firing help

Yes it would. It will build up your trigger finger strength and help you practice control as you squeeze. Dry firing is not usually harmful to the gun except rimfires.

Add the fact that the more your work the action, the more parts will wear and smooth out.

dry fire it.

and when you go to the range, practice what needs practice.

if you can shoot well in SA mode, but suck in DA mode...then stop shooting SA mode when practicing.

shoot a round. reset the hammer and shoot another DA round. reset the hammer, shoot another DA round.

Pull the trigger very very slowly and let it surprise you when it actually goes off.

buy a set of those forearm strengthening squeezers, and use them in reps of 10. When you can squeeze them 10 times with little effort, bump it up ti 15, and so forth. For bonus points, tie a rope to a stick on one end, and a 5 pound wieght to the other. slowly raise the weight up to the stick with a rolling motion, then lower it in the same manner. When you can do 10 slow up and downs, get a bigger weight.

You can also use the squeezers for an isometric work out. Put a coin between the handles, fully extend your arm while gripping the coin, and try to hold it between the grips for 1 minute. Using this method you will build forearm strength, but you won't be stuck with Popeye forearms.:eek:
