Default Basic hunter education course

Hi everyone I will be taking my hunter education course in July and I was wondering if it covers the requirement to apply for a FID or LTC. I am 18yrs old so I'm guessing it won't cover the LTC, but after taking the hunting course can I just go and apply for a FID or do I still need to take a firearms saftey course? Thank you!

This will vary by state; some states don't require a FID, thankfully.

What state are you from/in?

Successful completion of the Basic Hunter Education Course fulfills the requirements established by Mass. General Law to make application to your local police for a License to Carry Firearms, or Firearms Identification Card. [Massachusetts General Law Chapter 140 Section 131 P(a)]

I'm so old that I was never required to take such a course.

So after taking the hunting course I should be all set for getting a FID without taking a firearm course?

I am not from such a restrictive state, but that is what I garnered from a quick review of that website. Read it over. If you still aren't sure, get in touch with these people: Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, 100 Hartwell Street, Suite 230, West Boylston MA 01583
Tel: (508) 389-6300; Fax: (508) 389-7890.

Good luck!

I am so old that hunters education and firearms safety was part of the curriculum. We started with Eddie Eagle in the first grade and ended up with what would be hunters safety today. No one got shot at school. We never heard of any mass killings in the schools.
