I think you should just drop the idea of using a paintball gun as a defensive weapon all together and be done with it.

Oh wait take the with a small needle 22ga suck the paint out of the paint balls and refill them with mercury. Then they would really hurt. That is if your paint ball gun could shoot them they would be really heavy. That there would hurt like a sumb itch.

A paintball gun is NOT a firearm. The dictionary states that a firearm is a weapon, can be a rifle, or pistol from which a projectile is fired by gunpowder. That's why we call them "FIRE"arms. NJ is another one of those "we hate everything fun" states and they invent their own definition so that they can restrict whatever they want.
Agreed on the definition, but even pro-gun Montana considers a bow to be a firearm now.

what is this, romper room? You take out your painball gun and shoot some bad guy, he takes out his 45 ACP and shoots you back. You're dead. Any other silly questions?

I would suggest (if you're really hell bent on using a paint-ball gun for SD) using something like a spider auto. IIRC they can fire something like 15 'rounds'/balls per second, but I was never able to fire more than 11 - 12 balls per second without breaking them.

Then, I would use marbles (and an auto-hopper). I believe (have heard) that the standard marble is the same caliber as a paint ball (what's it like .68 or .86 cal or something like that) and can be fired in a paint ball gun.

Paint balls hurt bad enough, but marbles (while the extra weight would definitely reduce your range/accuracy) I believe would be as effective as those 'non-lethal' bean bags you're always hearing about the LEOs using; especially if fired at 15 rounds/second.

But honestly, you'd be better off dealing with an 'illegal firearm's charge' by being VERY careful about hiding a real .38/.357 revolver until you needed it, than you would be if you died with a legal paint-ball gun in your hand.

If a 380 has trouble stopping a drugged up and angry bad guy then why the heck does anyone think a paintball gun with marbles in it would be any better.

1. A paintball gun probably wouldn't launch a marble more than a few feet and at such a low velocity that it would even leave a mark.

2. For the price of a decent paintball gun you could buy a pump shotgun, load it with 00 buck and DO IT RIGHT!

Is this thread still going on? Try defending yourself with a paintball gun and see what happens.

Welcome to T16.com
The most powerfull paintball gun I could find. 450 fps for rounds. Ok, thats going to hurt but unless you get a great groin shot or head shot your probably going to just piss them off.
