In the past I have stripped antique furniture and as with a gun stock some areas can be tough to get into & get the old material out of. A product that I found that works really well is a spray paint remover from NAPA Auto Parts. I spray it on, let it set & use the appropriate item to remove the old finish. Old toothbrushes work well for this.
