Refinishing 1911 Wood Grips

I'm sorry if this isn't in the correct section, but I would like to know what the best sealant would be to use on wood 1911 grips. I use shellac on rifle wood furniture, but don't know if that would be appropriate for pistol grips, given the potential sweat factor (sweaty palms).

Thanks guys!

I would use either boiled linseed oil for a matte finish or Tru-Oil for a more glossy finish. You could also pick up a can of spray lacquer and go that way as well. It all depends on the look you want to achieve.

Depends on the species of wood. Personally if the wood is a heavy hardwood with a lot of oil and resin I would opt for an oil rub. If it is a lighter density species of wood I would go with a lacquer based finish.

Thanks for the info guys. I appreciate it. Do you guys know where I can get unfinished 1911 grips at a good price?

One of the members here was selling some a while back. Do some hunting in the 1911 section and maybe it will turn up.
